Album Cover Artwork
Front cover |

Back cover |
Using a range of different of methods including drawing, scanning, editinng on photshop we have created our digi-pack. We wanted the artwork in our band album pack to have referrences to the genre of heavy metal so that our audience and customers knew what the type of genre and songs would be contained in the album.
This gave us the idea for the helmeted skull simbalising war relating to the concept of our band/group name "Hostile Forces"The blooded grenade and the "THANK YOU" font symbolising blood as well as the splatter and running down effect across the album.
The grave stone simbalising death also we were able to use this to relate to the theme.
All of these images also link in together outside of the genre and show a story or cause behind themselves, the skull being the dead solider, the gernade being the cause of death and the grave being the place where they shall lie.

Heavy Metal Fonts and Artworks Ideas for Album Cover
Here we have researched the different types of logos and symbols related around the genre of heavy metal in order to give us an idea for when we come to make and design our digi-packs. We mostly found that the area of heavy metal is shown through war, death and blood potraying to be dark and evil giving the impression to audiences what the music is like perphaps through this. We have also realised that it is potrayed through the use of cartoonish drawings in the pictures or fonts this could be done to show that it isnt realisitic or contributing to the fact for example the use of the red deviled man like creature on the left.
In conclusion this will help us to give a perspective in the type of fonts and logos we should display on our Digipack cover. We need to be able to relate to these so that audiences in this sector will know that we are a thrash metal band and it is a album.
Drawing and Scanning
For our preliminary task we hand drew the artworks for our digi-pack covers and inserts. Using the heavy metal research and planning resources we had come upon through the internet and our own knowledge/equiptment we came to a conclusion that most of the logos and symbols related around the area of the genre referred to war, death, blood and more. This therefore gave us the idea for the helmeted skull simbalising war, the blooded grenade simbalising blood and grave stone simbalising death as well as relating to the concept of our band/group name "Hostile Forces."
Unable to find any pictures and images that we could use and edit we then hit the idea of drawing and scanning our own designs. This was a simply process of firstly setching the pictures, then with a black pen we went over the pencil marks in order to get a clear image when scanning in the documents and lastly scanning the documents onto a memory stick and transerring it to our group IMac in which we could edit and create our digi-packs.
We came up with this idea as I did the same procedure for my GCSE graphics coursework project as well as taking art for GCSE I therefore volunteered to create the designs. This allowed us to create a concpet for own band/group that was more convincing and related around the heavy metal genre. From this we can refer back to the procedure when performing our A2 music video coursework in the future and perphaps do the same.
Aphrodite Kylie Minogue Album Cover
I felt that it was important to look at the front of the album cover as audiences will be attracted to the design of it as well as the fact that it gives impressions to the artist image and the type of music involved within it.
In the this album cover Kylie is positioned in the center of the picture, this is used to make the audience focus and concentrated at Kylie herself to show that this is her record.
Blue portrays the feeling of pure as it reflects the colour of water showing perphaps how superior Kylie is portrayed to be seen and/or reflecting the type of music that is contained in the album through the cover as pop music aims for younger audiences so she will have to portray a positive image.
Power and dominance over others, position of the camera shows this and the way she is portrayed to act as holding her arms implying people to bow and worship her, most important person in the world.

"Hostile Forces" Band name, Album and Song Names
Below is the font we used for the logo:
We came up with the name hostile forces to as it related around our concept of war and death together as many thrash metal researches I found through fonts, names and images related and referred to fierce, dangerous and death in general. As you can see in the image of the skull it clearly shows this, I later on drew up of a version will a war helment on the head of the skull to show the victim died due to violence and war innocents such as through the grenade for the inlay of our digipack we plan on putting in.
Here we have the name of the album "no mercy" implies that the band we give no chance of forgiveness and will fight to the very end. Thrash metal is hardcore and danger from some of the research I conducted having this name fitted in and related to the concept of war we were going for.
We also came up with some other ideas however soon declined them:
UnforgivenStabbedHatredTrappedWoundedGravestoneFearAnxiety
Here are the lyrics that also relate to the theory we are making:
hostile takeover
grave of death
fear
no mercy
cannibalism
hopeless
we are hostility
forgotten
forgotten part 2
broken glass
the unknown
ripped apart
As you can see we have taken deep consideration in the digipack.
BAD Micheal Jackson Album Cover
I felt that it was important to look at the front of the album cover as audiences will be attracted to the design of it as well as the fact that it gives impressions to the artist image and the type of music involved within it.
Micheal Jackson's album cover BAD makes himself stand out as the background of the cover is blank and plain white, this makes the audience focused on Micheal Jackson which is what the creators of this album cover want as he is wearing and is displayed as a rebellious figure compared to his other portrayals in other albums as a pop star for example. This also has some reference to the name of the album itself as being "BAD" again giving this reflection to the audience that this type of music is perhaps more hardcore or different to his previous albums. He also stands out in this album cover as he is displayed in the center of the album cover again attracting the audience that this is him.
The "BAD" logo itself also stands out as the main colors used and portrayed are black and white, with this bright red logo the audience is automatically drawn to this and know what the album is perhaps related to. It also has a graffiti type font again making reference to the bad portrayal of this album as people who are rebellious vandalize walls for example with graffiti cans. On top of that it is also over laid on the "Micheal Jackson logo" which supports my theory.

As we have produced a storyboard it will help us when remembering the different shots we have to
take on the day of filming as well as helping us structure and get the timings right when it comes to editing and organising it on Final Cut express. This will allow us to create more of a realistic and believable video to the original one.

Costume and Prop List
For costumes our group Harry has a similar and relatable set of clothes to the artist Ed Sheeran this includes a hoodie and skinny jeans many indie artists have these and which is considered as a known factor in the conventions of the genre as well as making it relatable to Ed Sheeran. We also have a pair of trainers that our group member Jack Carrington yet us use this will help to uphold the image and create more of believable portrayal of the actor.
Toxic containers preferably yellow when visting the practice at newport to go through the area we made note of the fact that they did indeed have similar containers, we wanted to make sure of this as it questions the audience in what is going on.
X-Ray picture and machine another key element and shot in the scene that helps to bring tension to the audience as they are questioning what is going on as well as considering the events in the storyline of this music video. We simply managed to get a image of this on Google Images and therefore print in out via a printer onto a A4 sheet of paper.
This will make our music video when distributing it more realistic and believable to the audiences getting better reputation and feedback for it, we have also had to keep in mind the amount of resources available to us and had to consider some of the most important factors that make this music video and it is this as we are creating the image of the artist.
Alex Day Forever Yours Music Video
The lyrics from the song forever yours makes clear reference to the events occurring within the music video. This is portrayed through the scenes displaying flashbacks of the two main characters and the scenes where both characters are together looking back at their memories, telling the audience that they will always remember and look back at the moments that they enjoyed the most hence the song lyrics and title “Forever Yours.” This is also perphaps trying to relate and connect to the audience thereofore making the music video have more of a effect to them and will make them enjoy it.
This also relates to a specific target audience, appealing to a young adult and adult audience perhaps as they do look back at their childhood and the times they enjoyed and treasured the most as it is displayed through the events occurring within the music video.
Tells a story behind the music video, this is between the two main characters as they have a relationship when they were perhaps younger or kids through the flashbacks of them enjoying to make short films together and then it seems to be that they are presently bored and alone without them and miss the those times that they had however they finally do reunite and have those moments they had again. This also makes reference to the title itself “Forever Yours.” This is therefore more appealing and makes the audience draw into the video as there is a meaning to it.
Katy Perry Hot n Cold Music Video
The lyrics in the music video “Hot n Cold” are referred and portrayed within the events occurring in the video itself for example when Katy Perry “I should have known better” engages with the scene when the groom doesn’t agree to marry her and then flees the scene. In a way the music video is trying to tell a story behind the music/ lyrics to make it more appealing and interesting.
The title and the storyline behind the music video “Hot n Cold” go together and make some specific intentions to the audience, for example the scenes demonstrated within the music video shows that the groom has some good and bad qualities about him as the bride at the beginning is happy to marry him however later on they struggle to be together when he declines the marriage hence implying the title and lyrics of “Hot n Cold.”
This is also relating to a specific target audience of people in a relationship who also may find it difficult to cope with them who do tend to change their mind or opinion, and do think of wanting perhaps to react to them in the same way as displayed in the music video as well as said in the title of “Hot n Cold.”

Risk Assessment Preliminary
Here I considered the potential dangers and risks for both out health and addressing issues for filming our preliminary music video:
Location getting to the surgery:
I have already looked into the routes and directions from our school to get to the surgery have done this by creating a post on blogger so that I refer back to it if i need it, this includes the lines we have to get on and stations as well as interactive widgets from google to get to the studio from the station, there is also many other features such as the timing of each one as well as creating a separate day schedule so we are not late which may affect our work.
Setting up at the surgery:
As the surgery has the similar setup and layout as in the Ed Sheeran Small Bump music video we do not need to change anything about it however we do need to take the camera and tripod from the media studies department to the surgery and plan out the type of shots we will take it from different angles and perspectives for example.
Fire at the surgery:
When we all visited the surgery to see layout we made not that the building did indeed have fire exits in case there was one also when entering the building you are required to sign in at reception, this is helpful as if we were missing a member we would know where he is by checking the signing in and out.
We will also make sure that we safely place out the equipment in case someone trips over wiring for example and injures themselves not to mention having phones with us at all times so that we communicate with each other if there is an issue of any kind as well as remembering to put them on silent so that it doesn't us when filming. We do not need to consider weather forecasts or reports as we plan on filming the shots for our music video in doors.

Camera Booking
As you can see we have planned for our equipment so nobody else can take it out before us by signing the camera we are taking out either one, two or five for example and therefore will be able to use it for that day, we have to write in the day we want to take it and when we will give it back as we are filming for one day we shay return it when we get back to school to start editing on the music video.
Location Permission
So we could film at the location we researched we had to make sure we could in fact film there as staff could throw us at without consulting them as well as the fact there are patients in some of the areas we need to film in such as the reception and can then consult with them when the best time will be. We were therefore able to get permission as out group member Harry Byford contacted them about our needs, we then got a replying saying we could film in the surgery between 1 - 2pm on the 4th July.

Music Video Filming Location
We have managed to acquire the location of the local Newport doctor's surgery, this is was one of our first considerations into filming there as when we watched the Ed Sheeran Smal Bump music video we took note that he was in a hospital related background due to the use of the showing some of the equipment such as the X-ray machine, pictures, toxic bin containers, beds and a reception. To was a brilliant idea as a quick visit there they had most of these factors as well as helping to up hold the image making our perhaps more realistic and believable.
As you can see from the directions from our school to the surgery it is within walking distances allowing use to quickly shoot the shots for our own music video and return the camera and other equipment back to the school.
Of course we will need permission to do this and we will use by contacting them through the details supplied by google where we were also able to create this widget for directions.
