Concept (story brief)

In this music video there is chemistry between the main artist and a rock type woman.

It is obvious that she is a big impact in his life.

The male character has it difficult in remembering and moving on in his live as it triggers of that everything in his lifestyle seems to have some relation to her.

Symbolic storyline (overall)

Similar storyline to our own in terms of being a love and romantic one which is the reason for looking and analysing into it as we can relate and refer to the conventions of rock allowing us to define ourselves of the rock genre.

In the past, remembering finding it hard to cope and move on from the life he is leading now, showing and expressing depression as it is all in the past. The artist performs to address the issues he is having, later on we see it from the perspective that it is a temptation or addiction and pushes it away in the end in order to continue and move on in his live.

Both scenes of the storyline and the performance came in together to became one making it understandable how the visuals, performance and lyrics all connect in order to show why it is happening.

Target Audience

Targeting young male men preferably as they can relate to the story as well as it being told by a male artist there is a connection as the same genders think alike and will understand the thoughts and problems they are having.

Artist Image/Representation

long hair, bearded stereotypical rock artist image, "I don't care attitude" being and expressing themselves the whole reason why they performing the type of storyline as they are be honest and audiences can relie on them.

Others have similar characteristics as well as one of the artists having spiky, gelled up hair "rebellious" a key convention in the rock genre as they think that they can do what they please. My research that i have carried out supports this theory.

Mise En Scene

Takes place in many different locations to show that the male character is always remembering his previous lover in his lifestyle and daily activities, this is keeping it interesting as it is a journey the audiences will follow.

Setting is relatable to performing as artist like to address the issues they have in general with the audience they can understand and relate to this as they be going through a similar situation and are in need of a solution to their problems. I believe that Nickelback are therefore guiding their audience and act like elders as know how to deal with issues as they may have experienced it.

Run down backgrounds/areas used such as behind the artists when performing the brick tiles look like there decaying from the use or age of them as well as the wiring being fitted over the top, the "I dont care attitude" about them.

However some parts are suitable when the main male character is distressed in the streets he is surrounded by in the background big apartment buildings but then when the female lover returns into hid sight she is seen coming out a reasonable apartment building next to a sandwich company. This is to my believe as the banners are black suggesting power as well as the style of font being fancy and the names too.

Camera Shots, Postinioning/Framing and Editing (the use and reason for them)

At the beginning the camera is at a low angle when the woman's  feet fade in, brings tension into who she is and what she looks like.

The lead singer/guitarist is positioned at the centre of the front as he is telling a narrative side of music video as well as being part of it.

Extreme close up of the females eyes sex appeal as well as the camera going up to see her at the beginning to suggest a love scenario occurring.

Costumes and props (the reason for them)

Shirts, black and demin style, suggesting power and the dark/bad side of them being rebellious and scruffy looking "I dont care attitude"

Lighting (again the use of them)

The background is brightened when he remembers her to show a happier time and shows how miserable his life is now through the atmosphere helps define the storyline and supports it.

Colour (again the reason for them)

When the lights are deemed there is a dark and cold feeling through the use of the colour blue shows how miserable his life is now through the atmosphere helps define the storyline and supports it.

Facial expressions and body language (use and reason)

When she touches the male character by the shoulders he closes his eyes and breaths in as if he is brought back to life due to the presence of the female lover.

It is important to understand the different rock genre music videos as we will need to apply a concept to the lyrics of the song we have in order for the audience to get attracted through this as well as looking at the conventions and issues the rock bands are displaying.
